Star Trek - Pike

RUMOR: Captain Pike ‘Star Trek’ Spinoff Series Moving Forward

Star Trek may continue to expand its reach on modern television. According to The Weekly Planet Podcast, Anson Mount’s Captain Pike will return to the small screen in his own series alongside several other popular characters.

During the show’s famous “Hot Scoop or Shot of Poop” segment, hosts James Clement and Nick Mason revealed that a reliable source has told them that Captain Pike will have his own show after appearing prominently in Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season. On top of that, they claim that Number One and Spock will make their return in supporting roles. Akiva Goldsman, the man behind both Star Trek shows Picard and Discovery, will act as showrunner for the spinoff.

Captain Pike became a fan-favorite in Discovery after Anson Mount’s performance won over audiences despite the mixed response the second season. Due to unfortunate events during his captaining career, the character suffers physical consequences that permanently ties him to a wheelchair. However, it can be assumed that the rumored solo series will see Pike before the events of said accident.

The second season of the CBS All Access television series Discovery is set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series and follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they investigate seven mysterious signals. The series was renewed early last year for a third season that will follow the main crew as they travel a thousand years into the future.

  1. Assuming this isn’t just rhetoric and actually happens, I would not be surprised in the least if this show quickly eclipsed ST:D and becomes the ST franchise flagship.

  2. I hate to diss Discovery (I do enjoy it) but Pike should have been the first Star Trek prequel on CBS All Access. Starting off with a fan favorite like Pike would have avoided all the Discovery-hate from fans who felt it was too different from previous Treks.

  3. Who is the “reliable source?”

  4. Nice work mentioning the podcast segments title, as you are 100% legally obligated to do. You a real one

  5. I pray that if there is to be a new Pike series, it’s done right.

  6. The Pike series would be a dream come true!

  7. Why was Season 2 disappointing? I personally thought it was excellent.

  8. If Anson Mount were allowed to bring to ST what he brought to Hell On Wheels, there would be no limit to the upside potential.

  9. I luv ST:Discovery, and the new ST:Picard is interesting too, on the USS Geriatrics. 😉
But yes, Star Trek : Pike/(Enterprise) will hopefully be the flagship of our next fully-fledged ST Series.

I like the short treks with Pike and maybe a ‘special episode or two’ but a whole series is not really that great of an idea to me. Pike will end up doing all these awesome missions that we’ve heard nothing about (other than Talos IV) and I realize anything goes, but Kirk was the biggest deal in Star Fleet and it’ll be pretty hard to top Pike if they keep make awesome shit for him to do.

  11. Star Trek would do well to return to its optimistic, full of wonder approach to the future and the universe, which was the driving mood and theme of the original. I would love to follow Pike and Spock on their mission of discovery and see it bump up against the Kirk era..!

  12. If true… PLEASE let it be a return to a #StarTrek that exudes wisdom, intellect, morality, exploration & FUN! Not treachery, ruthlessness, despair, violence, torture & beheadings! Classic Star Trek was a show the entire family could enjoy and was actually positive & inspirational influence on society as well. Star Trek Discovery & Picard are neither. Star Trek used to depict a future where humanity is better than we are today, not as bad, (or worse).

What would be wrong with Star Trek returning to it’s roots and being about exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and new civilizations … where there excitement and drama resulted from the wonders the crew encountered while exploring deep space, not from ongoing conflicts with each other?

  13. Cannot wait love Captain Pike.
